cause vs. reason

推理小說中，「動機」是最難解釋清楚的一個因素；不管創作者想出多麼離奇的詭計或機關，都還是在自己能夠掌控的範圍之內，但「動機」其實是向讀者解釋「這 個角色為什麼要這樣做」的動作，解釋得好，讀者就能理解、能感同身受，解釋得不好，讀者就會覺得這故事有哪裡不大對勁、不那麼令人滿意。

不喜歡色戒的電影,就是這樣吧. 相比之下原著短篇就好很多.

嗚嗚，被罵了， 趕快補一下。

Slumdog millionaire
第一次看'Who wants to be the millionaire?'是在澳洲，主持人氣氛控制的很好，問的那些題目，我一個都答不出來（當然，我將之歸結為文化差異）。回台灣之後，偶然看到台版的片段，相當失望阿。
貧民窟出身的小伙，在節目中一路過關斬將，眼看就要拿到最高獎金，他怎麼可能會知道這麼多？每一個問題與解答，都與他的成長過程中的點點滴滴環環相扣。小伙的個人經歷，與手足跟心儀女孩間的情誼和衝突、追求和失落，也帶出印度社會的種種面向、變遷以及問題。最後的happy ending，雖然滿足了觀眾希望，但也諷刺的體現「電影終究是電影」。現實之中，又有多少人能和主角一樣幸運？After all, this really is written.

The Wrestler
Darren Aronofsky說得非常好的故事。Mickey Rourke詮釋早已over the hill的拳擊手跟Marisa Tomei扮演的單親媽媽stripper，好像有那麼一些同是天涯淪落人的感情交會。拳擊手想修補與女兒長期冰凍的關係，但努力卻還是不夠，一次的失約對女兒來說，就像是在過往一次次失約的痛苦回憶上再次劃上一刀。性格決定命運，拳擊手也不是沒有想要改變，但對掌聲的嚮往、對過去榮耀的難以忘記，他的一點點自負其實也只是想對自己有所肯定；然而付出的代價值不值得，就很難說清了。（我對loser的故事都比較喜歡，像是Leaving Las Vegas......)

UT圖書館兼生活雜記

因為爸媽來，我們在UT PCL借了不少中文書回家。
有時候是他們自己選，有時候我從學校回家前，會繞到圖書館看看。
我一邊幫他們選書，一邊找些自己有興趣的。就這樣，在煩躁寫不下東西的這幾星期也看了幾本。

還有，我媽都借跟論語有關的書。因為她在台北的重要活動之一就是帶小朋友讀經。
我爸，我給他選過紅高粱 頃城之戀 今生緣（之前看了讓我很驚艷的袁瓊瓊作品），他自己借的多為歷史方面，像民國初年動盪、國共內戰，更遠的岳飛事蹟等等。

• Copy (by hand) sections of textbooks and periodicals in your non-native languages.
• Make a note of unfamiliar grammatical points.
• Practice proofreading.

Improve your public speaking skills

• Take rigorous speech courses and/or join Toastmasters.
• Practice writing and making presentations in front of other people in both your native and your foreign language(s). (Have native speakers of your non-native language edit your speeches).

Hone your analytical skills

• Practice listening to speeches and orally summarizing the main points.
• Practice writing summaries of news articles.
• Practice deciphering difficult texts (philosophy, law, etc.).
• Practice explaining complicated concepts understandably.
• Identify resources for background research; library, Internet, etc.

Become computer savvy

• Be familiar and comfortable with word processing in both your native and non-native languages.
• Practice using on-line services for research.

Learn how to take care of yourself -
eat sensibly, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep

• These are the habits required of a good translator/interpreter.

Be prepared for the long haul

• Bringing language skills and analytical skills up to the level required of a professional translator and interpreter is not a task that can be accomplished in a few short years. Only with a lot of patience and sustained hard work can anyone truly succeed in this challenging and exciting field.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 算是拼了老命
Iron Man 很搞笑
Hulk 這個的差講過了。
Kung Fu Panda 既好萊塢又滿中國的
Wall-E 前半段很讚
The Happenings 很不怎樣，但是在drive-in 看的，很有趣的體驗。
The Dark Knight Joker 很酷，蝙蝠俠則是很有錢。
Hell Boy II 這是某人說要看的。

Knocked Down 這應該是一段時間之前的？
赤壁 有云「沒有最爛，只有更爛。」

love is a mixtape

別的地方看到的。
很有意思。

綠巨人

前幾天在家裡看了Hulk第一集
雖然戲的開頭沒有很喜歡
但漸入佳境
不時地感受的Hulk的無奈恐懼跟憤怒
反正我對打鬥場面也沒有多大的熱愛
人物塑造成功的第一集Hulk倒是賺了我兩把眼淚

第二集是昨天看的
打鬥是很多 好像什麼武器都出來了
但情節上很俗氣
感情的處理老套 慢鏡頭 音樂的運用都很可以預測
Edward Norton真的很會演 但Liv Tyler就感到可有可無
結論是 我一點都沒有感動到

在中時部落格看她的文章有一段時間了
今天從學校圖書館借了她的“今生緣”
本來想是吃晚餐的時候翻翻
結果一看就停不下來
整個不管劉寒冰
跟著故事 哭著 愣著 笑著
在某個轉折處 我的反應簡直比書中人物還誇張
真的是腦門轟地一響

Transformers 怎麼我都不記得小時候看過？三星半

Harry Potter 有點陰暗 有點冗長 三星半

Once 這個讚到不行！音樂超好聽 五星五星！！
看了好想談戀愛 更想會樂器

Ratatouille 五顆星啦！
Die Hard or Live Free 三星半
Shrek 3 三星半/四星
Grind House 有點噁心 不過也滿娛樂的 詭異 三星半/四星

children of men

完全是看到clive owen, julianne moore就覺得可以去看了

結果

同行的人覺得裡面的意象都太膚淺了
是啦 最後那個tomorrow號 實在很遜
處處也很明白地看到“聖嬰”的reference
破爛不合宜的處所
小寶寶的出生卻太快
那Kee也太強壯了 剛生完隔天就可以東跑西跑
(Key to the problem of infertility)
轟炸大樓裡的居民跟士兵
看到小寶寶 就像是看到奇蹟 救世主
最終從小水道離開
就是從母親的產道 出生到新天地

並沒有預期的精緻感動
clive and julianne的演技沒有多大的發揮空間阿

（但還是有喜歡的片段 像是他兩玩口傳球遊戲）

本格小說

水村美苗的第三本作品
昨晚（或是今早？）一口氣看完
厚厚七百多頁
故事中串連著故事

後設的寫法通常讓人多些戒心
水村的手法卻使我幾乎不想在乎“她到底想傳達什麼言外之意？”“這樣的結構是設計出來的！” 種種會打斷故事的思慮

主故事本身是wuthering heights的現代版日本版
時間拉的長 特別描述了許多日本戰爭中跟前後的社會轉變
前綴部份場景也拉在美國
一邊營造私小說的氛圍 ㄧ邊鋪陳“合理”的時代背景
作者的企圖阿！
怎麼樣也很難就當愛情故事來讀的


不過主愛情故事部份雖說吸引人不停讀下去
我卻沒有很強的被說服感
不知是因為念念不忘 story-teller輾轉講述的anti-authenticity （但這本來就是小說阿）
或是自己對主角人物的愛情太冷漠



上周看的“天邊一朵雲” 還沒好好整理感想
又想看這本“在你口中 我茫然失措”
